A resident of Hadera, Yaacov Hecht spent his childhood years in Givat Olga. He founded the country's first democratic school in Hadera in 1987, and served as its principal during its first decade. Hecht founded the Institute for Democratic Education and has personally guided the founding of dozens of democratic schools in Israel and abroad.
