Givat Olga

With a population of 10,000 people, Givat Olga is currently the largest of Hadera's neighborhoods (with 75,000 people living in all of Hadera). Givat Olga was founded in 1949 near one of the Mediterranean Sea's most marvelous seashores. As of early 2006, about 40% of its residents were veteran Israelis, while the remaining 60% were new immigrants, most of them from Ethiopia, the Caucasus and the former Soviet Union.
The establishment of several new neighborhoods surrounding the older Givat Olga neighborhood has been under way for the past several years. It is part of a broader development plan intended to promote tourism along the beautiful shoreline. The Pioneer Program joins this plan, with the goal of nurturing new enterprises with a social-economic focus, enterprises that would utilize the social diversity of Givat Olga, promoting the neighborhood to the forefront of the social change movement in Israel.
